 September Community Service Hours: 3 Cumulative Semester Service Hours: 3 A day spent cleaning up litter along the riverfront and through the Carrollton and Black Pearl neighborhoods reminded me why community work matters just as much as classroom learning. Tulane’s World Clean Up Day brought out an energetic mix of students, neighbors, and families. We hauled bags of trash from the levee, fished debris out of grass, and walked block by block, making the streets a little brighter. As a student in Tulane’s Pharmacology master’s program, I couldn’t help thinking about how environmental health ties directly into human health. Studying toxicology, drug mechanisms, and disease pathways gives me a deeper appreciation for how small pollutants accumulate and affect communities over time. By the end of the day, my legs were tired, my hands were dirty, and my heart felt full. It was a reminder that science and service can live side by side.
